Title: Fantasy sports draft rules...
Post by: Igorz88 on March 09, 2010, 08:16:43 AM
Do to the current work stoppage i have decided to post the rules or if you will..etiquette of fantasy drafts (especially over the phone drafts)

Now i know that this isnt the most convinient way to do the draft, and EVERYONE has some things that he has to do (be it job, school, kids, family, girlfriends, lovers and whatever else u'd like to throw in here), however none of these things should be used as an excuse.  What some of us should understand is that not all jobs are created equal; meaning a person who works a desk/computer job generally has more accesss to resources than a person who works in a health/sales/on your feet kind of a job, hence these people are generally expected to make their picks faster(not to say that they themselves cant be busy at any given moment).

I'll use myself as an example; i will obviously not leave my class to make a pick.  But i will make my pick as soon as i have a few extra minutes.  You can all ask Marat, how many times i called him today to get updates; since i didnt have computer access.  Now we all understand that SOMETIMES there are emergencies (which i may soon have myself, but as i told Marat i wont be an ass about it; meaning even when i'm in the hospital ...pardon my language but we all have to take a shit at least once a day or in my case at least twice; i know i know too much info) anyhow where i was going is; do everything in your power not to make the other 9 managers wait for too long...all we ask is that you make an effort...TRY TRY TRY!!!

So here is what you can expect from us (people who run this great league of our for over 10 years now):

1. The league draft will run as quickly and professionally as possible
2. You will in most cases have up the minute draft results
3. All the needed resources are right at your fingertips (i.e current salary and positions taken)
4. In most cases you will know your turn is coming up at least one pick before your turn (sometimes 2 or 3 picks before)
5. Your picks and info pertaining to the draft discussed with the draft conductee are always kept confidential (ex. you give your pick before its ur turn)
6. Any technical issues will always be resolved by our great technical support (one man) team

Here is what we expect in return from you:

1. Prepare ahead of time ( if you have computer access check our spreadsheet hourly if possible, if you do not make it your business to call or text someone and find out the latest draft update)
2. Know when you are picking (...and if you are not going to be available for a certain period of time let one of our draft conductees know of that ahead of time, sometimes we can pull strings to get to you faster)
3. Be considerate of others (Dont call someone who has a patient dying; 100 times in 15 mins to ask him what he is picking)
4. Dont be an ass ( "Oh he took half the day, so now i will take just as long or more", or "We waited for him and now you guys can wait for me")
5. Dont discuss picks or throw out names of players yet to be drafted
6. Last but certainly not least dont abuse our draft conductees (ex. give us headaches by being indecissive, also keep in mind that we are drafting right along side with you and anyone you want we may want as well)

To sum it all up; i think if everyone follows these rules our draft will go quicker and much smoother.

With outermost regards,
